Q. Do I have to contact the DVLA if I have had a defibrillator fitted?
A. Yes. The ICD Office can provide you with the necessary up-to-date information you require.
Q. Is there a booklet on ICD's?
A. Yes, we have up-to-date copies of the main manufacturer's booklets to send to our members free of charge on request.
Q. Are there other hospitals and clinics specialising in ICD's abroad?
A. Yes there certainly are. Not only do we have a list of hospitals and clinics in the U.K., but now have access to 2,000 clinics in 50 countries worldwide. For further information, please contact us.
Q. Can I fly and travel abroad now I have an ICD?
A. Yes, providing your cardiologist gives you permission.
Q. Does my normal holiday travel insurance from the travel agent cover my medical condition?
A. This is not always the case, but ask your travel agent and inform them that you have an ICD fitted.
Q. Are there any sporting activities that I should refrain from?
A. Again, this is a matter between your cardiologist and yourself.
Q. How long do ICD's last?
A. This question needs to be addressed to your Biomedic or Cardiologist, who will be happy to tell you
Q. Do I have to tell other medical personnel that I have an ICD fitted?
A. Yes it does help to keep other medical staff informed like dentists etc. All the necessary information can be found in your ICD Manufacturers Booklet. Biomedic Staff are usually very helpful. Please note that the Biomedic Clinics are for the analysis of your ICD/pacemaker system only. All questions of a medical nature must be discussed with your own consultant or general practitioner.
